What is the program?
Hometown Heroes is a state funded program with 50 million dollars allocated to assist eligible first-time homebuyers across all of Florida including Melbourne, Palm Bay, Cocoa Beach, Satellite Beach, Titusville, Merritt Island, and the entire Space Coast. It helps essential workers live in the same communities they serve and reduces the biggest barrier most first-time buyers face, cash to close.
Eligible occupations include teachers, school staff, nurses and healthcare workers, police, firefighters, EMTs, childcare workers, many government employees, active-duty military, National Guard, reserves, and certain veterans. Hybrid workers usually need to report to a physical Florida location; fully remote workers typically do not qualify.
To qualify for the Hometown Heroes program in Brevard County, you generally need:
The program works with FHA, conventional, VA, and other loan types, giving you flexibility based on your situation.
Hometown Heroes provides 5% of your first mortgage amount (minimum $10,000, maximum $35,000) toward down payment and closing costs.
The assistance is a 0% interest, deferred second mortgage. You make no monthly payments. The loan is only repaid when you sell, refinance, or transfer the home.
For many Brevard County buyers, this covers a large portion (or all) of the cash needed to close.
